Body Measurement Guide for Clothing
Use this guide to take accurate body measurements for custom clothing. Always stand straight and relaxed, and have someone help for the best results.
NECK
Measure around your neck where a collar would sit. For comfort, place one finger between the tape and your neck.
CHEST
Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape level and your arms relaxed. Breathe out while measuring.
WAIST
Measure around your natural waist, just above the belly button. Stand in a relaxed position and exhale.
HIP
Wrap the tape around the widest part of your hips. Keep it level all the way around.
SEAT
Measure around the fullest part of your seat (lower hips/bottom), keeping the tape snug but not tight.
SHIRT / KAMEEZ LENGTH
Measure from the top of your shoulder (near the neck) down to where you want the shirt to end.
GOWN LENGTH
Measure from the top of your shoulder (near the neck) down to your preferred gown length—usually between the knee and the foot.
VEST COAT LENGTH
Start at the top of the shoulder (near the neck) and measure down to where you want the vest to end—usually around the belly or upper knee.
PAJAMA / SHALWAR LENGTH
Measure from the waist or hip down to your ankle. This defines the full length of the pajama or shalwar.
SHOULDER WIDTH
Measure from the end of one shoulder to the other, across the back. Keep the tape straight and horizontal.
ARM LENGTH
Start at the shoulder point and measure along your slightly bent arm down to the wrist. This gives the full sleeve length (for all sleeve types).
SHORT SLEEVE LENGTH
Measure from the shoulder down to where you want the short sleeve to end.
WRIST
Measure around your wrist at the point where you want the sleeve to end.
BICEPS
Relax your arm and measure around the fullest part of your upper arm (biceps area).
INSEAM
Measure from the top of your inner thigh (crotch) straight down to your ankle. Keep your leg straight for accuracy.
